A new home for Head Start

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus' Head Start program is one step closer to having a new home.  City Council members voted today to deed over 2 acres off of Regency Drive to the Enrichment Services Program (ESP, Inc.) for a new Head Start Center.

Council members did vote on some restrictions that come along with the land.  City Manager, Isaiah Hughley, explained, "If the property ceases to be used for a non-profit purpose then it would have to revert back to the city. And, if they wanted to sell the property to get their value out of the building then they would have to remit back to us the current fair market value."

The fair market value is $165,000.

Head Start currently operates off of Luna Drive.    It is not known when construction will begin.
