Auburn City School leader to retire

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Tonight, Auburn City Schools are preparing to say goodbye to their leader, Dr. Terry Jenkins.

School board members reluctantly accepted Jenkins plans for retirement next year. Jenkins has been named both Alabama and Georgia state school superintendent of the year.

He worked 32 years in Georgia's education system and served 10 years as Auburn City Schools superintendent.

Tonight, News Leader 9, Elizabeth White will speak with Dr. Jenkins about his plans for retirement, plus she will have more on how the city will begin its search for a new leader.

Lee County Sheriff looking for a few good kids!

LEE COUNTY, AL (WTVM) - Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones is encouraging parents to sign their kids up for the junior deputy program.

The program teaches kids about law enforcement, self defense along with the dangers of drugs and alcohol.

Sheriff Jay Jones will share more information on how parents can sign their kids up for one of three sessions over the summer.
