SALEM, AL (WTVM) - Alabama State Troopers and the Public Safety office are investigating the crash of a 4-wheeler.  It happened Tuesday night off Lee Road 252, right off 254 in the Salem, AL community.

Seventeen-year-old Amanda Johnson and 18-year-old Justin Stokes were allegedly thrown from an ATV after it flipped.

It's believed Johnson called police, who rushed to the scene to find both teens injured.

All factors that could lead to impaired driving are being considered in the case.

Lee County Sheriff Jay Jones says, "The male had suffered some pretty significant trauma to the head and as a result of that we contacted the Life Flight helicopter emergency transport service and he was airlifted by helicopter to the Columbus Medical Center in Columbus. The female that was on the ATV was transported by ambulance to the medical center as well."

Johnson is no longer at the hospital.  As of 4:30 p.m.Thursday, Stokes is still in critical condition. His family says he is fighting and they are asking the community for prayers.

Investigators believe the serious injuries were a result of the two not wearing helmets.
