COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A Phenix City teacher arrested last week in Columbus, GA on  sexual battery charges, has been at work this week for the past two days.

Phenix City School superintendent, Dr. Larry DiChiara,  says he bases his decision let Korey Abercrombie back in the classroom on the following:

  1. His was charged with a misdemeanor
  2. He was let out on bail. If he was a menace to society a judge would not have let him out.
  3. The incident did not happen on school grounds.

Dr. DiChiara adds Abercrombie is a senior English teacher and he wanted him in the classroom to give seniors their final exams.

We're told on Thursday, Abercrombie spent some time signing year books.

News Leader 9 also learned Abercrombie has secured an attorney.  Meanwhile, Dr. DiChiara says he is awaiting Abercrombie's day in court for further insight.

News Leader 9 is following this story. We'll have the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
