COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus man has pled guilty to a string of crimes in the city.

Twenty-year-old Maurice Burton has admitted his guilt in an armed robbery at a local Domino's pizza, the robbery of a Subway employee and aggravated assault on a police officer, all dating back to 2007.

He has been sentenced to 20 years, 12 of which he will spend behind bars.

He had been facing a life sentence on his charges.

Burton was shot by a Columbus Police officer at Lakebottom Park after the officer said he tried to run him over with a car.

After the shooting, police were able to tie him to several armed robberies, a kidnapping, a battery and several stolen cars.

As part of his plea agreement, 13 armed robbery counts were dropped.
