FORT BENNING, GA (WTVM) - After months of waiting in traffic and weaving in and out of barricades, the northbound lanes to Interstate 185 just north of Fort Benning are officially open for business.
Kimberly Larson, with the Georgia Department of Transportation, says that after weeks of consideration her team decided it was time.
Residents who use the stretch of road for their commutes every day, say they are more than thrilled because traffic will flow smoother. A resident of Fort Benning, Robin Ruzizka, says, "It's going to be so nice once all the construction is done because it's so crowded during rush hour."
Although two lanes opened today, Larson says construction on the entire northbound project won't be completely finished until next May, "Well once we put motorists on those two new lanes we'll start on the next lane and the shoulder in the northbound side," she explains.
