MARION COUNTY, GA (WTVM) –  The Georgia Bureau of Investigation tells News Leader 9 a couple has been arrested in connection with a homicide in Marion County, GA.

Thirty-year-old Donna Slaughter and 23-year-old Jason Slaughter were arrested around 3:30 p.m. Monday.

The body of 21-year-old Michael Haegele was found more than a week ago along Butler Mill Road along the Macon/ Marion County line. Click here to read a previous story.

Investigators say the murder occurred on Thursday May 6, 2010 between the hours of 11:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. at 23 Palm Drive in Mauk, GA.

Haegele's body was found about 30 miles from his GA home the next day by a school bus driver and her students.

GBI agents say Donna shot Haegele in the back of the head with a handgun. Official documents also reveal Jason was present when the murder occurred and aided in cleaning the crime scene and disposing of the body.

We're told Jason Slaughter reported Haegele missing on May 1.  

Haegele was living with the couple after meeting Jason online since February of last year.   

Relatives tell us he was raised by his grandmother in St. Louis, Missouri and graduated from high school in 2007.

The couple is being held at the Marion County Jail.  Local, state and federal law enforcement agencies are checking to see if they commited any other crimes -- possibly in other states.
