COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A man is scheduled to appear in court after being cited for causing a fatal accident Friday in Columbus.

According to a Columbus Police incident report, it was 19-year-old Nelson Baldwin III's failure to yield that led to the deadly crash. It happened around two yesterday afternoon on Macon Road in front of the Columbus Public Library.

Baldwin was driving a Chevy Impala down Macon Road when he turned left onto Boxwood Boulevard and crashed into a pickup truck. Barbara McBride, a passenger in Baldwin's Chevy,  died from injuries sustained in that crash. Both vehicles received extensive damage.

Baldwin was cited with homicide by vehicle, second degree. He's scheduled to appear in recorder's court on June 24th.

Muscogee County Deputy Coroner Freeman Worley says McBride's body has been sent to the state crime lab in Atlanta for an autopsy.
