AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Hundreds laced up their shoes for a good cause in Auburn Saturday morning.

It could have been a morning of somber, but nearly 500 smiles lined the parking lot awaiting their run.

Ross's mother Andrea, who's been in the Birmingham Children's hospital with her son for weeks, says she can't believe how many people showed up."It's hard to wrap your head around something like that. I mean you know you have people that you're close with and you love but when people you don't even know very well are willing to do those things for you, it's very humbling."

Runners were asked to make a donation, but no registration fee was required.

All proceeds will go to benefit the family with medical and travel expenses and the rest will go to a charity of Ross's choice.

Ross is still in the hospital, but making baby steps to recovering.

"It's a slow recovery, he's more medically stable than what he was um so there's no word yet about coming home we're just still waiting to meet with the doctors to find out our next step" says Folmar
