COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - A suspect is behind bars after allegedly trying to kill a man with a two-by-four.

Police reports show the suspect -- known as "Gucci" or Roy Williams Ross is now being charged with aggravated assault in the weekend attack.

Police say 54-year-old Steven Shaw and his girlfriend were walking to a friend's apartment at the Cozy Corner, just before midnight Saturday when he was attacked.

The couple was at the intersection of 4th Avenue and 35th Street in Columbus when a man they know as "Gucci" approached them. The suspect started swinging a two-by-four piece of wood at Shaw.

During the attack, the suspect told the victim quote- "I'm going to kill you".

The victim tells police everything during the attack happened so fast that he doesn't remember many details, but he knows he was hit at least once on the hand with the piece of wood.

The victim's girlfriend went to a nearby gas station to call 9-1-1 after the assault.

Williams is being held on a $10,000 bond.
