Alleged rapist arrested in Auburn cold case

AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - Auburn police have arrested a suspect in a three-year-old rape case.

Thirty-one-year-old Curtis Williams has been arrested by the Auburn Police Department, for rape robbery and burglary.

Chief Tommy Dawson tells News Leader 9, Curtis is responsible for the rape of a young Auburn woman back in March of 2007.

In 2008, Investigators got a call from the Department of Forensic Sciences informing them DNA taken in the case matched Williams.

Williams was behind bars at the Limestone State Prison in Alabama, serving time for breaking and entering into vehicles.

Dawson says Williams was released this weekend from prison and Auburn Detectives were there to re-arrest him.

Dawson told News Leader 9, Williams was taken to the Lee County Detention facility, where he is now free on a $50,000 bond.
