COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The lines were so long and the rooms were so crowded at Goodwill's new Success Center Thursday, you'd think they were giving away something free- and, they were.
"This is a first of it's kind for this market and we're really excited about it. The Success Center is basically your headquarters for free career and financial services," said Kari Finley, Financial Services Manager.
The center off Macon Road offers career services like writing resumes, working job leads and improving interview skills.
Financial help is also on hand with tax preparations, credit reports and budgeting. Employers were out in force Thursday as the center celebrated its grand opening.
It's a light at the end of the tunnel for folks like Matthew Floyd who's been out of work for two years.
"It seems like every time I get a job, the employer is saying we have to let you go, we have to make budget cuts. Today, I heard about the job fair that Goodwill Industries was offering and I decided to come out to meet with different employers one on one, to talk with them, to turn in my resumes and see what they have to offer," he said.
"Our overall goal here at the Success Center is to be the first stop for people in terms of career and financial services. We want them to be able to come here and get started down the path of wherever they're trying to head," Finley added.
Officials say funds for the center are coming from a variety of grants and Goodwill's retail sales.
The Success Center is open Monday through Friday and no appointments are needed.
