Area Summer Activities for Kids

(WXTX) – Now that the kiddies are out on summer vacation, parents are probably scrambling to find ways to keep their child busy and out of trouble.

Area organizations are hosting summer camps and activities for kids.  In addition several area pools are opening just in time for summer vacation.

News Leader 9 compile a list of camps and pool openings. Here is what we found:

JUNE 1 — Activ8, Space, Sports Camps Open
Columbus State University summer camps for children and young teens opens Tuesday with Continuing Education's Activ8 series, space camps at CSU's Coca-Cola Space Science Center and sports camps coordinated by the CSU athletics department. The camps will run weekly through July 30. For more information, go to:

JUNE 7 — ‘Summer Spectacular' Camp Series Opens
The College of Education and Health Professions opens its Summer Spectacular series Monday, June 7. This summer enrichment program for ages 4-11 takes place through July 1 at North Columbus and River Road elementary schools in Columbus. CSU early childhood education students and faculty will direct activities themed "Structures: Ancient and Modern Wonders of the World," 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday at both sites. The Auburn Fire Department is investigating an arson at Archie's Oyster Bar. Fire investigators found evidence at Archie's indicating that the blaze was intentionally set.

Columbus Parks & Recreation Department
Columbus pools are slated to open May 27th. The city department maintains and operates 8 facilities.
The city offers swimming classes, profession scuba certifications and programs in competitive swimming.

DAILY LUNCHES:  June 1- June 25, 11:00 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. --Lunches provided by the Free Lunch Program

During registration week, TUTORS & VOLUNTEERS are asked to come for the orientation session. 
The session will be held in the Rothschild cafeteria on Friday May 31, 2010 at 11a.m.

Auburn City Pools will be open over the Memorial Day holiday weekend.

Samford Pool

Drake Pool

Daily admission is $2/person, children 1 & under are free

Season passes are on sale at the Dean Road Recreation Center during regular business hours, Monday - Friday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  Pools will be open from Saturday, May 29 - Monday, May 31.

Morning Recreation Swim
10 a.m. – Noon

Lap Swim
Noon - 1 p.m.

Afternoon Recreation Swim
1:15 - 6 p.m.
