ALBANY, GA (WALB) - Out of three fatalities this Memorial Day weekend two were in South Georgia.

They occurred in Dougherty, Chattahoochee, and Dekalb counties. That's still far less than the estimated 15 fatalities predicted.

Since the holiday travel period started Friday, the state has seen more than 2,000 crashes and 514 injuries.

The number of crashes is more than predicted. So far, it's still less than the number of crashes we saw last year.

The Summer H.E.A.T campaign also started Memorial Day. Police will be looking for DUIs and reckless drivers. The campaign will run through Labor Day.
