COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - The low voter turnout prediction held true during the morning commute to the polls in Russell County. A handful of voters cast ballots by Noon Tuesday with minimal problems, according to Alford Harden, Probate Judge.
"Problems you have at every polling place, where someone shows up at the wrong voting place because they've voted there previously and maybe forget that they change, but all in all it's going well."
Harden said he's expecting a 25% to 30% voter turnout despite some people traveling back home from the Memorial Day weekend and the possibility of inclement weather.
Some voters are determined to have their voices heard. "When I went to vote at Roy Martin, very few people were there, but it was really early. We're hoping it gets a lot better by lunch time. A lot of people are back at work, so hopefully around lunchtime the traffic will pick up.
The polls are open from 8 AM to 8 PM Eastern Standard Time in Phenix City from 7 AM to 7 PM in the Central Time Zones.
