Columbus Police investigate string of overnight burglaries

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus Police are investigating a rash of overnight burglaries at businesses across the city.

Around 1:30 Thursday morning, three businesses fell prey at a shopping center on Gunboat Drive off Milgen Road.

Police say the front windows of Rogers Barbershop and Supplies, Tastee Cookie Company and DLS Finance were smashed out with a brick and the units were burglarized.

The unknown suspect or suspects got away with the businesses' cash registers.

Then, at 2:15 AM a brick thrown through the front door of the Atlas Café on Macon Road.

Police say the cash register was smashed and the unknown suspect got away with $9 in change.

According to reports, ID technicians were called to the scene but no fingerprints were found.

Several hours later at 6 AM, Rick's Auto Repair on 10th Avenue was burglarized.

Officers were called to 13th Street and 10th Avenue in reference to three black men dressed in all black clothing acting suspiciously and connected them to the incident at the nearby garage.

One man, 22-year-old Jason Weldon, was arrested at the scene and police are still searching for the other two suspects.
