Columbus man injured in hammer attack, suspect wanted

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus Police are investigating an altercation that ended with a 22-year-old Columbus man in the hospital. 

Around 3:45 Thursday afternoon, officers arrived at a home on Knox Street. 

The victim there told police he was visiting with Eric Simpson, when Simpson began "playing around." According to the police report, Simpson said, "I am tired of you (expletive) trying me!"

Simpson allegedly struck the victim in the face with a hammer. The victim was taken to Doctor's Hospital by his mother for treatment. 

Officers went to Simpson's residence, also on Knox Street, and no one came to the door.

A warrant has been issued for Eric Simpson's arrest for aggravated assault.
