COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  Columbus Police confirm that divers are in the Chattahoochee River near the Bibb City Mill looking for a 43-year-old man who was swept away in the waters.

Police say the man went under the waters off Linden Point.

A dive team has been in the water since 7 PM, searching for a man whose name officials are not yet releasing.

According to police, a group of people were swimming off the RiverWalk when the victim apparently stepped off into a deep spot. Investigators say his friends tried to help him and get a hold of him but the strong, fast-moving current pulled him away.

At this hour, the dive team has been pulled out of the river now that it's dark. We're the told they will resume their search in the morning.
