COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Hundreds of families in the valley aren't going to bed with empty stomachs after a local organization provided them with food. What began as tragedy for one family, has turned into a community outreach for so many others.

On Sunday, Feed The Children distributed a semi tractor-trailer full of food items at the New Bethel Seventh Day Adventist Church to 400 families in need. The distribution was made possible by Aslean Florence, wife of deceased firefighter Herman Florence. The distribution marks the one year anniversary of his passing. Herman was active in his community and Aslean is honoring him by continuing his stewardship as an active member of the community.

The boxes of food and toiletry items are designed to help a family of four for up to one week.

The Herman Florence Foundation, founded and run by Aslean, plans to do several other events like this one to help the Columbus and Ft. Benning communities. If you would like to find a way to help the organization, you can send an e-mail to asleanflorence@yahoo.com
