Man arrested following alleged beating at Father's Day gathering

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus Police have now identified the female victim and male suspect involved in a Father's Day gathering gone wrong.

Police arrested 28-year-old Christopher Fretwell at his Lee County, AL home at 6:30 a.m. Monday in connection with the assault and kidnapping of 38-year-old Isabella Cain also of Lee County, AL.

According to Sgt. Harvey Hatcher, the incident occurred at a home on Chapman Drive during a gathering on Father's Day.

Witnesses say Fretwell began beating his girlfriend and then threw her in his 1996 Honda Accord and drove off.  It happened around 11:53 p.m. Sunday.

Shortly after, Cain showed up at a Lee County, AL hospital with bruises to her arm and neck.

At the time of the kidnapping, police alerted area law enforcement agencies of the kidnapping.

No word on a motive or what may have sparked the disagreement, but according to police reports, the suspect and the victim had been drinking.

Christopher Fretwell has been charged with battery and kidnapping and his first court appearance is pending his decision to waive extradition rights.
