County commissioner recalled for allegedly exceeding his authority

QUITIMAN, COUNTY, GA (WTVM) - Legal proceedings have begun in Quitman County to recall the County Commissioner Richard Morris.

Concerned citizens petitioned the court, claiming Morris wrongfully adopted a resolution to have the grand jury investigate the sheriff's office with no proof of wrongdoing.

In court documents, it is alleged Morris abused his power by attending the proceedings and demanding the investigation.

The petition also claims Morris exceeded his authority by dictating procedures for spending budgets of certain offices.

Judge Edward Lukemire has granted their request, finding probable cause that the facts alleged are true.

The judge has ordered the Election Superintendent in Georgetown-Quitman County to begin recall proceedings.
