COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Two surveyors working near Enoch Drive and Morris Road were robbed at gunpoint Thursday morning.

The victims, Steven Watkins and Aaron Collins, who work for Becker Survey Company, say they were approached by a black man in his late teens or early 20's around 8:00 a.m. Thursday.

The man asked for money and when Watkins and Collins said they didn't have any, the suspect pulled out a gun, pistol whipped Watkins in the back of the head and forced him onto the hood of his work vehicle.

The suspect threatened to kill both victims if they moved and took approximately $2 and a bag of personal items from Watkins.

Shortly after the incident was over,  Watkins and Collins each positively identified their attacker, 18-year-old Melquavis Powell, to Columbus Police in a photo lineup.  He was booked and charged with armed robbery.

The officers working the scene told the victims the man they identified has a criminal history.

Watkins and Collins were surveying land for a new residential development near Morris Road when the attack happened.
