COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  MDV is teaming up with Georgia Quickstart and Columbus Technical College to provide training for roughly 175 jobs.

The Columbus Chamber of Commerce says they are more than excited. Janeen Tucker with the Chamber of Commerce, said, "This is another big step in economic development. It's bringing jobs so people looking for work have the ability to find positions and get a steady income."

Tucker says there is much more to the plant than new jobs.

Economic Development affects everyone. "When they hire 175 people at some point that will probably take a while, you've got people who now will have the income to eat at more restaurants, hit the dry cleaners, head to the grocery store." Said Tucker.

MDV Nash Finch is the second-largest wholesale food distributor in the U.S. They focus solely on to serving military commissaries and exchanges in America and abroad.

MDV has purchased a large plant on Technology Parkway in Midland, GA. The Chamber of Commerce said they have no doubts why the company chose to grow in Columbus.

Job applications are currently being accepted at the Georgia Department of Labor Career Center located at 700 Veterans Parkway in Columbus.
