PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) -  Phenix City Fire Chief Kris Kennedy thinks fireworks may have caused two house fires over the holiday weekend.

The fire chief tells WTVM the home on 12th Court has been vacant for some time and had no power when flames completely engulfed the house, starting from the outside.

Another fire at a home being remodeled on 14th Avenue did some damage and also started outside of the empty house.

Kennedy says the city saw a rash of folks setting off fireworks over the July 4th weekend and even as firefighters were fighting these two blazes, fireworks were being set off nonstop in the neighborhood.
