COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -Do you remember your first locker, where you dissected your first frog, or where you sat for your first high school assembly? Carver High School alumni, or anyone else who would like a piece of history, now have a chance to get their hands on a memento from the school with the click of a mouse.
Surplus items from Carver High that the school system couldn't use are up for grabs before demolition.
"There is a lot of history there at Carver. A lot of people that are proud of Carver, how long Carver has been there, and what it actually went through," explained Carver PTSA President Larry Marshall.
Along with the sentimental items, furniture and fixtures from the kitchen and library are also being auctioned off online. The auction is going on until Friday, July 16, 2010. Click here for a link to the auction website.
Valerie Fuller, MCSD Communications, said, "Anything that we could use throughout the district that was inside the school previously has been distributed throughout the school district."
The money made through the auction will go into the school district's general fund. With all the recent budget cuts, Fuller says every little bit helps. "Best case scenario, we will sell every single item that is up for auction."
"Bid on them. You got to be creative with what you are doing. Times are hard, times are rough, but those are times when you can actually become creative and you make things happen," said Marshall.
