COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  A Columbus Police officer is expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday after his patrol car was totaled in an accident.

Officials say 29-year-old Motor Squad officer, Tim Greene, was struck by a pick-up truck at the intersection of Schomburg Road and JR Allen Parkway Tuesday afternoon just before 3:00 p.m.

According to Lieutenant Mark D. Starling, who heads up the Motor Squad, traffic-related charges are pending against the driver of the truck, 70-year-old Earl Holmes of Phenix City.

Starling says Holmes ran the red light, smashing into the squad car driven by Greene.

Greene suffered minor injuries in the crash but usually patrols on a motorcycle.

Starling tells WTVM if Greene had been on the bike at the time of the accident, he most likely would have been killed.
