COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – A Columbus child was taken to the Medical Center after being hit by a car.

According to Lieutenant Mark D. Starling of the Columbus Police Department's Motor Squad, 11-year-old Jacory Searcy was attending a function at Saint Mary's Road Elementary Friday and was with a group of children who crossed over Saint Mary's Road. Starling says the other kids made it across the street before Searcy and coaxed him over.

According to police, the child ran into the side of a Ford Explorer as he darted out in the street, leaving him with a serious injuries to his lower left leg and foot.

The driver of the SUV is not facing charges in connection with the accident because Starling says it was a pedestrian violation.
