SEALE, AL (WTVM) - It was a heated board meeting Thursday night but in the end Mike Green was picked to be the next superintendent of Russell county schools.

He was chosen by a vote of four-to-three.

Russell County has had 5 superintendents in the past eight years so the board is being extra careful as to who they hire for that position.

Kenneth Barnes, vice president of the school board, said "We've always been trying to change that you know and that's the reason its so important that we get someone that get's a good fit here for Russell County we want stability and we want the best possible superintendent that we can get."

Green has been the interim superintendent for Russell County since December, when the school board bought out former superintendent, Yvette Richardson's contract.

In addition, a committee was created to meet with Green in the upcoming weeks to negotiate contract agreements. No date for that has been set.
