Traffic stop turns into foot chase, then cocaine arrest

OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) – Opelika police say a routine traffic stop ended with a cocaine drug arrest.  

Captain Allen Elkins tells News Leader 9 officers tried to pull over 27-year old Chris Maddox Tuesday afternoon for traffic violations. Elkins says Maddox got out of the car and started running.

During the chase officers saw Maddox throw two baggies to the ground.

Maddox was eventually captured by police and officers found 18 grams of cocaine in those two baggies. 

The chase happened in the 200 block of Avenue C  in downtown Opelika. Maddox is behind bars at the Lee County Detention Facility.
