LUMPKIN, GA (WTVM) - The City of Lumpkin, Georgia has a new mayor. Barabara Cullefer, who was serving as mayor pro-tem, has assumed the duties following the resignation of Mayor Bill Singer.

The 75-year-old Singer announced at a budget meeting Monday night that he was stepping down because of medical reasons.

Singer tells News Leader Nine he's being treated for high blood pressure and bad circulation in his legs. He was elected mayor on three separate occasions, most recently in 2008.

Cullefer says the special election to fill the unexpired term of Bill Singer will be on the November ballot.

When asked if she plan to run for the seat, Cullefer told us that she'd rather stay on the Lumpkin city council.
