Columbus police search for gunman

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) - Columbus man is recovering from a gunshot wound to the hip. Columbus police tell News Leader 9, they found the man lying on the front porch of a home in the 2400 block of Dawson Street around 11:00 Wednesday night.

Police were called to the scene by a 911 caller reporting a shooting.  The victim, a 29-year-old man, was transported to Columbus Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Medical Center officials tell us the victim was treated and released.

His injuries were not life-threatening. We are told the victim and a woman were leaving Victory Trailer Park and noticed they were being followed by two men. The victim told police the younger man began yelling at the woman.

As the victim and the woman ignored the advances, the young man began shooting. At least three to four shots were fired.  One struck the victim in the hip.

The victim and the woman ran to a nearby yard — yelling for help and a neighbor called police.

Police are still searching for a suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, 5'7 about 16 to 18-years-old, with short hair, wearing a long-sleeve white shirt, tan shorts, white socks and black Nike Air-Force Ones.
