Baby dies in Auburn after sleeping with parent

AUBURN, AL - On Saturday, August 7, 2010 at approximately 8:20 a.m. Auburn Police Division officers, along with Auburn Fire Division and Emergency Medical Services personnel, responded to the Auburn University Hotel & Conference Center in reference to an unresponsive person at that location. 

Upon arrival officers contacted a two-month-old male infant who displayed no signs of life. 

The infant had been sleeping in a bed with a parent when the discovery was made by the parents. 

Lee County Deputy Coroner Gene Manning arrived on the scene and pronounced the infant dead at 9:30 a.m.

The infant's body was transported to East Alabama Medical Center. 

An autopsy is planned.  The cause of death is unknown at this time but no foul play is suspected. 

The family is from Mississippi and was in town to attend a function.

The case is under investigation by the Auburn Police Division, Lee County Coroner's Office, and the State Medical Examiner's Office.
