Elderly pedestrian struck by car in critical condition

VALLEY, AL (WTVM) – Valley police say an elderly man was struck by a vehicle during his early morning walk.

Major Mike Reynolds tells News Leader 9, the 84-year-old man was walking the "Rails to Trails" around 7:20 eastern time when he was struck.

Police say the 35-year-old female driver was taking a right onto Cleveland Road from Highway 29 and struck the elderly pedestrian who was walking in the crosswalk on Cleveland Road.

The accident happened near Valley High School.

Major Reynolds said he would consider the elderly victim's injuries to be critical. He was flown via helicopter to Columbus Regional Hospital.

The driver has not been charged at this time, however Reynolds says the investigation continues.
