COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – News Leader 9 has learned Columbus Regional Healthcare System has acquired the Tidwell Cancer Treatment Center.

The center was founded in the early 1990s by Dr. Jack Tidwell.

Officials at Columbus Regional tell News Leader 9 the new move is a good fit.  We are told the cancer center will continue to offer radiation oncology services as well as direct patient care.

Dr. Tidwell and his wife Eve are well known for their community involvement and their support of education.

The couple recently founded the "God Bless Fort Benning" celebration and recently honored cancer survivors through their annual "Cancer Survivors Day" events in our community.

Saint Francis Hospital
Statement from President and CEO Robert Granger:

"St Francis serves as the leading provider of surgical oncology in our region and has had a long standing relationship with both the John B. Amos Cancer Center, as well as Tidwell Cancer Treatment Center. We look forward to continuing our strong relationship with those organizations to serve the people of our region in the future."

Our news team is following Friday's announcement. We'll have a detail report beginning on News Leader 9 at Five.
