E. Alabama man drowns at West Point lake

WEST POINT, GA (WTVM) – An Opelika, AL man drowned Sunday afternoon at West Point Lake near Lower Glass Bridge Road.

Around 2:30 p.m., 21-year-old Geovanni Cesena and a friend were trying to swim to a buoy.

Witnesses on the scene say they saw the young man go under in 10-feet of water.

Coroner Jeff Cook says Cesena told his friend he was getting tired.

Divers recovered his body about an hour after they started searching. Cesena was among a group of people from New Life Church in Auburn, AL.

We are told the group had been at the lake since 10:00 a.m.
