TROUP COUNTY, GA - On Friday, 8/27/10, the Troup County Sheriff's Office executed search warrants on two separate local businesses after undercover agents played video machines at the locations, accrued points and were paid in cash by the employees.
Commercial video gambling machines are illegal in Georgia.
The searches were conducted due to the businesses allegedly providing cash payouts. One of the locations was licensed as American Beauty Supply store on West Point Road, while the other maintained Camp's Bait and Tackle on Vernon Ferry Road.
The Troup County Sheriff's Office seized eight video gambling machines from American Beauty Supply and over $2,500 in cash.
Agents arrested Kwan Hyung Lee, of Columbus, at that location and charged him with commercial gambling. No beauty supply products were found to be on hand at the alleged beauty supply store.
Five video gambling machines and over $600 in cash was seized from Camp's Bait and Tackle.
The owner of the business, Mayank Patel and a cashier, Gihan Leung (both of LaGrange) were arrested and charged with commercial gambling.
If you know of any similar illegal activity occurring in your neighborhood, Troup County Sheriff Donny Turner advises you to notify the Troup County Crime Stoppers Hotline at (706)812-1000.
