Sheriff department's K-9 suddenly dies

CHAMBERS COUNTY, AL – The Chambers County Sheriff's Office is mourning the loss of one of its own.

We are told K-9 Kilo died suddenly on September 1.

An autopsy will be conducted by Auburn University to determine the cause of the K-9's death.

Kilo was 6 years old and served with the Chambers County Sheriff's Office for 4 years.

During his career, Kilo was responsible for several arrests of individuals for illegal drugs, thefts and robberies. In addition, he was a regular visitor at area schools.

Sheriff Sid Lockhart told News Leader 9, "Kilo was an important member of our department and will greatly be missed. While we mourn his passing we will be forever grateful for his service to the citizens of Chambers County."
