COLUMBUS, GA – A Columbus police patrol car ran off the road in a Tuesday morning chase.
An unnamed officer was patrolling the area for a burglary suspect when he spotted a vehicle matching the suspect's around 11 a.m.
He tried to stop the suspect, though he sped off, leading officers in a chase down Floyd Road in east Columbus.
According to witnesses, the suspect came over the hill at Emerson Avenue and pulled into oncoming traffic.
The officer crested the hill and also turned into the opposing lanes to avoid hitting cars in front of him.
He then collided with the curb, went airborne and slid down a ditch and struck a tree, witnesses said.
The officer was taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries. No other details about the incident are known at this time.
