Children's Health

General Pediatrics and PICU

The Columbus Regional Women and Children's Center offers the region's only dedicated pediatrics program. The program includes a full-service Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU).

A variety of innovations and superb medical care addresses the special needs of children and their families and features a unique décor designed to put children at ease, private and semi-private rooms, specialized rooms for oncology patients, and amenities for family members.

Mother/Baby Postpartum Care

The Medical Center serves as one of only six regional perinatal centers in Georgia. The Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), or High Risk Nursery, consists of 4,035 square feet and 28 bassinets. It features state-of-the-art equipment, expanded space around each incubator and special lighting control capabilities. All of these features provide infants and families with the best possible care in a comfortable, supportive environment.

The nursery is staffed by caring professionals dedicated to helping critically ill infants gain the strength to begin their lives outside the hospital. Infants requiring High Risk Nursery services are transported by a neonatal transport team using advanced technology and the latest in medical transport equipment.

Child Life Specialist

A child life specialist at the Children's Center eases the trauma a hospital visit can cause for a child or family.

A Child Life Specialist has expertise in helping children understand the hospital, treatment, and illness as well as in working with staff to make hospitalization a positive and less stressful experience for pediatric patients and their families.

Child Life Specialists provide therapeutic intervention through procedure education, medical play, family support, and normative activities to help pediatric patients cope with the hospital experience while promoting development and independence
