MCSD Considers Addition of Autism Program

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) -- The Muscogee County School District is discussing the addition of an autism program. Board Members are considering a contracting with the Marcus Autism Center in Atlanta.

A decision is expected next week on the $75,000 program. Initial plans have it operating at Ridgon Road and Hannan Elementary schools. While the autism program is being considered, Dr. Susan Andrews, Muscogee County School Superintendent Dr. Susan Andrews is also looking into hiring more assistant principals.

Andrews says seven local schools, including four elementary schools, could use the administrative help. She alluded to several factors, including enrollment numbers, as reasons for the potential hirings.
