Stone Mountain, Ga. golfer wins $5 million Georgia Lottery grand prize

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WTVM) -- Typically you have a pretty slim chance at winning millions playing the lottery. But, Friday five locals had a one in 72 chance at winning $5 million dollars from the Georgia lottery.

Those lucky players who registered non-winning tickets were selected to particpate in Friday's random drawing along with 67 other players. They packed seven Georgia Lottery offices in the state to watch a live feed of the random drawings, which awarded tickets to a Falcons game, a grand prize of $5-million dollars, and twenty-five 500 dollar prizes.

Lee McDaniel, 67, won $5 million in the Georgia Lottery's World Class Millions $5 Million Grand Prize Event.

"I'm just excited," said McDaniel, who works at Mystery Valley Golf Club in Lithonia. "Before I came, I got up and went over to the golf course, and one guy guaranteed me that I would win."

McDaniel was one of 72 contestants randomly selected in weekly second-chance drawings for the instant game World Class Millions. Each weekly winner won $5,000 and a chance at the $5 million grand prize.

When McDaniel was selected in the $5 million drawing, he immediately jumped up in the Atlanta office and hugged his wife, Maude. McDaniel and his wife will celebrate their 46th wedding anniversary Monday.

"Our anniversary weekend is off to a great start," McDaniel exclaimed.
