Teen dies in two-vehicle accident in Auburn

Press Release

AUBURN, AL - At approximately 11:13 PM Saturday night, a two vehicle accident at the intersection of Hwy 14 and Shug Jordan Parkway claimed the life of a 17-year-old teen from Montgomery, AL.

Virginia Foxworth Jacks, of Montgomery, was the front seat passenger in a vehicle driven by James Mathieu Haley of Auburn when it collided with a vehicle driven by Ronald Wayne Rogers of Jonesboro, GA.

Jacks was killed instantly and was pronounced dead at the scene at 11:30 PM from multiple blunt force trauma.

Haley was transported to East Alabama Medical Center and admitted due to his injuries. A male rear seat passenger in Haley's vehicle was air lifted by Lifesaver helicopter to the Columbus, GA medical center and his other passenger was uninjured.

Rogers and his front seat passenger, Terri Rogers, was transported to EAMC by ambulance for treatment of non life threatening injuries, Rogers other passenger, Taylor Rogers received only minor injuries and was not transported by ambulance.

Rogers, himself, received only minor injuries and refused transport by ambulance.

It appears that Haley was traveling south on Shug Jordan Parkway when he attempted to avoid a vehicle that had possibly entered the highway from Highway 14 or had slowed down on Shug Jordan and lost control and spun into the northbound lane of oncoming traffic and was struck broadside in the passenger side by Rogers vehicle.

Auburn Fire Department had to use the Jaws of Life to extricate Jacks and the rear seat passenger from the vehicle.

No alcohol is suspected to be a factor in the accident and the incident remains under investigation the Auburn Police and the Lee County Coroner.
