Laboratory
By meeting rigid standards in day-to-day operations and achieving the highest accuracy in testing, our oncology laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists. Please note that we are unable to accept lab test orders by outside physicians.

Regional Hope Pharmacy
The clinical pharmacists of Regional Hope Pharmacy are an integral part of the patient care team at the John B. Amos Cancer Center. These pharmacists work very closely with the physicians and nurses of the Cancer Center to ensure that your specialized medication therapy regimen is initiated effectively, closely managed and that outcomes are closely monitored.

Regional Hope Pharmacy is conveniently located within the Cancer Center and is provided for palliative and other therapies, as prescriptions are written within the Cancer Center for home use.

Understanding your medications is important, and pharmacists are available to meet with you to discuss your medication therapy and to ensure that your total pharmaceutical care needs are met. Pharmacy hours of operation are 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday through Friday. For information, call 706-321-6600.

Social Services
You and your family members may be interested in meeting with our Case Manager Associates or our Clinical Counselor who specialize in helping patients cope with the impact of cancer and its treatment, and support groups are also available to you and your family. It's important to address your emotional, social and physical needs so that these factors don't interfere with the optimum delivery of care.

In addition to individual counseling and support groups, our Clinical Counselor directs our Patient Advocacy Council which seeks to continuously improve our operations through feedback from patients.

Patient Education and Resource Center
Patient education is an important part of your care, because as a well-informed patient, you can confidently discuss treatment options and make informed decisions. Members of your healthcare team are the best source of information about your treatment plan.

In addition, the Patient Education Department, located on the second floor, provides access to a wide variety of patient educational information, including print material and Internet access to cancer information Web sites. The resource center is coordinated by our nurse educators who can also help instruct you on your treatment plan. The Educational Resource Center houses a conference center, a community health library and meeting space for community education programs and support groups.

Our Patient Education Team combines knowledge of traditional medical treatments with more accepted complementary therapies for which there is high quality, scientific evidence of both safety and effectiveness. Key elements of this program could include acupuncture, nutritional counseling, massage therapy and movement therapies, such as yoga and tai chi.

For more information, call 706-571-1102. You are also encouraged to use the services of the American Cancer Society. They provide patient resources seven days a week, 24 hours a day and can be reached at 1-800-227-2345 or on the web at www.cancer.org.

Clinical Nutrition Services
Your treatment team will assess your nutritional needs and determine whether the presence of weight loss or any changes in food intake or activity will indicate the need for a referral for nutrition counseling. A registered dietitian who specializes in oncology will provide nutrition education for you and your family. more info...

Pastoral Care and Meditation Room
Pastoral care is provided for patients and families to promote the Spiritual beliefs that can be a great source of strength and comfort in challenging times. The Cancer Center chaplain is available to provide non-denominational pastoral care, support and counseling, and also works closely with community religious leaders of all faiths to provide you with pastoral services. The chaplain will be happy to contact your minister or appointed spiritual leader or arrange a visit from a religious group of your choice.

Volunteer Services
Volunteers are valuable members of our John B. Amos Cancer Center team. They assist in various roles, including staffing the information desk and acting as patient navigators. Many are cancer survivors who can provide a sense of hope to newly diagnosed patients embarking upon treatment.

Advance Directives
Every day in hospitals across the country, treatment decisions are made for patients who cannot express their own wishes regarding their care. Today, federal and state laws allow you to choose what treatments you want given, discontinued or withheld if you should lose your decision making abilities.

Advance directives are forms which are completed before a serious health condition arises which might render you unable to state what types of treatment you would want or not want to receive. Advance directives, also known as living wills, allow you to make legally valid decisions about your future medical treatment. Even after signing these documents, you may change or cancel the documents at any time, but any changes must be written, signed and dated. For more information, call 706-320-8700.

Administrative Team
Behind the scenes, the administrative team at the John B. Amos Cancer Center maintains the responsibility of operating our community's state-of-the-art cancer center to ensure that your care is seamless and timely.

Patient Satisfaction
The John B. Amos Cancer Center welcomes your feedback. While Cancer Center staff members dedicate themselves to providing the best care possible, there may be times when you feel we have not met your expectations.

Your comments, suggestions and concerns will help us to identify those areas where we are reaching or exceeding your expectations and where improvement in service is needed. An administrative staff member is always available to answer your questions and respond to your concerns and complaints. The administrative director can be reached at 706-660-6126.

Additionally, you may receive a survey in the mail from Press Ganey, a national consultating firm we use to further capture your perspectives for continuous improvement of care.
