COLUMBUS, GA – The Columbus State men's basketball team has added Southeastern Conference member Auburn University to its slate of games for the upcoming season.
The exhibition game will be played on Monday, November 8 at the new Auburn Arena. Tip-off is set for 8:00 p.m. ET.
"This is a great way for us to start off the year making the trip to Auburn," said head men's basketball coach Robert Moore. "With so many Auburn fans in this area, it gives the local community a chance to see our program against a quality opponent, seeing the type of exciting basketball we will put out every night and getting a backing from our local fans.
The two teams have squared off twice, during the 1983-84 season and the 1984-85 season as well.
In their first ever meeting, the Cougars led for the majority of the contest before Auburn came back to win 58-54. The following season Auburn defeated Columbus State (Columbus College at the time) 91-56.
The exhibition game will be one of the first events to be held in the new Auburn Arena. The grand opening of the arena will be on October 15 with one exhibition contest prior to CSU making the trip to Auburn.
"It will be a great experience for our players," commented Moore. "A lot of these kids had dreams of playing Division I basketball and this will give them the opportunity to showcase their skills against "big time" basketball. The new arena will draw a rowdy crowd which will help prepare us for the season for playing in such a hostile environment."
