COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) – Columbus Fire authorities are officially ruling a fire that destroyed an apartment complex to be arson.

On September 9th, the massive fire destroyed the entire top floor of the Pleasant Point Apartments on 15th Avenue near Martin Luther King Boulevard and Cusseta Road in Columbus.

Fire marshal, Chief Thomas Streeter says after interviewing several tenants and reviewing evidence – all signs are pointing to an intentionally set blaze.

During interviews, investigators were told two tenants had an ongoing dispute, in which heated words were exchanged and arson was threatened.

According to reports, the fire started on the second floor of the apartment building in unit #20. Investigators say it appears an ignitable liquid or accelerant was used to start the fire.

The case is still under investigation. A motive has not been determined as of yet.
