OPELIKA, AL (WTVM) – The man accused of killing an Auburn University student appeared in Opelika courtroom Monday afternoon for a status hearing.

Courtney Lockhart faces a possible death sentence for the March 2008 murder of Lauren Burk.

Investigators say Lockhart kidnapped the freshman outside a dorm on Auburn's campus, tried to rape her and rob her, then shot her and left her to die near Farmville Baptist Church in Auburn, AL.

A trial date is set for November 8th.  Another status hearing is scheduled for Tuesday October 19th at 1:30 CST to make sure everything is in place for the trial.
