Now is the time to land a seasonal job

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) –  If you are looking to earn extra money, today could be your day.

Earlier this week Toys R Us announced it was hiring more than 40,000 workers for the holiday season.

At Columbus's Peachtree Mall retailers tell us they are searching for holiday help.

If you are hoping to land one of those gigs, just know that competition will be tough, but there are few ways to get your foot in the door.
Tip #1 -- Look the part.

"Be ready for that interview, even when you go in just to ask for the application, cause the person handing you the application may also be the hiring manager, " Delia Postell, Manpower, Incorporated.

Tip #2 --  Start looking now!
"When the decorations appear in the stores, it's almost too late. They've already made their hiring decisions by then," says Postell.

Tip #3 -- Although you're simply searching for seasonal work, treat it like a true job search.
"You want to be up at 8:00 a.m. because that may be when that company calls you to ask you if you're available to come in for an interview," suggests Postell.

Tip #4 -- Don't forget, image is everything.

"Look at your email address, make sure that it's an appropriate email address.  Your ringtones, your ring back tones on your cell phone, those can speak to an employer about you as a potential employee, " says Postell.

Besides retailers, some of the other sectors that may be hiring for the holidays includes restaurants, caterers, delivery services, even companies that put together toys like bikes and swing sets.
