Labor Day murder suspect pleads not guilty

COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM)  -  Eighteen-year-old Tray Thomas, the man connected to a Labor Day murder in Columbus, pleaded not guilty Friday morning to charges of murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.

Witnesses told police they heard Marquis Roberts, the other suspect charge with murder in the case telling Tray Thomas to "Get him."  minutes before Thomas allegedly fired the gun that killed 18-year-old Gerald Hatchett.

Twenty-one-year-old Marquise Roberts was arrested earlier this month in connection with the case as the driver in the incident.

Roberts has already pleaded not guilty to murder and aggravated assault.

The alleged vehicle the two suspects were in was described by witnesses as a dark colored SUV. Investigators say the SUV was recovered in Phenix City. Inside the SUV were five shell casings.

Meanwhile, investigators have not been able to recover the murder weapon. It is believed to be a silver stainless steel semi-automatic weapon.

Friday morning, a judge denied bond and the case is now bound over to Superior Court.
