COLUMBUS, GA (WTVM) -  The case of a Columbus man accused of murdering his pregnant wife moves one step closer to trial.

A Muscogee County Grand Jury has indicted 32-year-old Zyderrious Platt for the murder of his wife, Jilani, and their unborn child.

According to court documents, Platt faces several counts of murder and feticide after shooting Jilani in the head with a Luger handgun last October.

During Platt's preliminary hearing after his arrest in October of 2009, Columbus investigators said the couple got into an argument over rent money that escalated into a scuffle.

Police say Platt told them choked her and she fell to the floor at the top of the staircase in their Crystal Court apartment.

Platt allegedly claims he left and came back home, only to find Jilani at the bottom of the stairs, not moving.

According to investigators, at that point, Platt panicked, put the body in his Suburban, drove to a remote location and accidentally fired his weapon in the air -- a bullet hitting Jilani in the head.

Detectives say he later led them to the site where her body was found- a retention pond off Schatulga Road.

Platt also faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Court documents show he was convicted of aggravated assault in Gwinnett County, GA in November of 2005.

In March 2009, he was jailed after Jilani accused him of punching her in the face -- but she later dropped those charges.

He remains in the Muscogee County Jail.
