AUBURN, AL (WTVM) - The City of Auburn ranks 6th in the nation when it comes to the best small city for business and careers, and that's according to Forbes.

The magazine considered many factors including costs, job growth, income growth, and more.

Emerson Duhon, Owner of Mr. Hem alterations in Auburn has been in business for 16 years.

He says it's no surprise Auburn ranked so high in Forbes ranking of best cities for small businesses.

"We have a lot of faithful customers who even when they move away they still come here to get their alterations." Said Duhon.

Jeff Price, Owner of Price's Barbecue House in Auburn agrees, "I think everybody here appreciates individual businesses and appreciates small businesses and I think in general we're looking for that connection."

Auburn Mayor Bill Ham says Auburn is the only city in the Deep South on the list and the national recognition is very rewarding. "It's a good growth area even in the time that we're in, in economic downturn and East Alabama and Lee County is certainly a bright spot."

Price says he loves having a small business in a town that appreciates and supports each other.

"It's great it's a great place to work and it's such a great community to live in it's grown so much."

Having a community that supports small businesses, Like Mr. Hem, is not taken for granted; Emerson Duhon says he knows how fortunate they are. "It's just great that we have so many businesses and we have so many small businesses that are so great. There are lots of towns and cities that just don't do well."

Auburn moved up 4 spots from last year's ranking.
